Bob Smith Industries BSI-201 Quick-Cure Epoxy
The Bob Smith Industries adhesives are known for their extra quick drying times. This epoxy is one of their quintessential adhesives that provides an incredibly fast setting and curing time for this type of adhesive.
We usually expect an epoxy to be clamped for at least an hour or two and then left overnight to fully cure. Bob Smith Industries didn’t like the idea of waiting for so long and made this amazing epoxy that sets in 15 minutes. Yes, you read it right, an epoxy that sets in 15 minutes!
Not only that, this epoxy will fully cure and reach its maximum strength in only 60 minutes. That’s 24 times faster curing time than a regular 2 part epoxy!
Another unique feature that this epoxy has is the clear drying color. Most of the epoxies on the market dry ugly dark grey or black in color. This one, on the other hand, dries crystal clear, making your joints invisible and tidy-looking.
Because of its super-fast drying time, this epoxy sacrificed a bit of its strength. It has a tensile strength of 3500 PSI, which is on the lower side for a 2 part epoxy. It will still hold the particle board great but not like the J-B Weld model we reviewed earlier in the article.
The resistance of this Bob Smith Industries epoxy is excellent. It can tolerate temperatures from -40 to 180 degrees Fahrenheit. It also has wonderful water-resisting properties that make it withstand moisture and mildew with ease.

Cleaning up this glue is as easy as pie as it cleans with water easily. If you get some of this glue on your skin or clothing, it will be much easier to remove than polyurethane or epoxy adhesives.
The price of this adhesive is on a higher side but is justified. It’s a professional-grade adhesive used by professionals and people who want the strongest and most resistant bonds.
What To Look For When Choosing Glue For Particle Board
Particle board is made by mixing wood waste, sawdust, and adhesives to make an inexpensive alternative to wood. They are usually weaker than the real wood but can be bonded with the same adhesives we use for bonding hardwood and softwood.
The particle board is mostly used for furniture, underlayment and kitchen or other countertops. Whatever your project may be, you will need to use a proper adhesive that will bond the particle board effectively.
We will now go through the features and properties you should look at when choosing an adhesive for particle board.
Type Of Glue
There are 3 types of glue that we recommend using for bonding particle board. There may be other adhesives that can bond it but won’t do so as effectively as these 3.
The three adhesives we are talking about are PVA Wood glue, Epoxy adhesives, and polyurethane adhesives. Let’s take a closer look at each one and its properties.
PVA Wood Glue
PVA glue is a standard glue for wood used by professional woodworkers. It creates a cross-linking bond on the wood and makes it stronger than the wood in most cases.
This type of glue is usually non-toxic and is great for projects that come in contact with food. You can safely work with these adhesives without protective equipment.
PVA glue by itself isn’t resistant to moisture and can be actually cleaned and removed by water. The wood PVA adhesives have different additives that make them waterproof and enhances their temperature resistance.
These adhesives are very affordable and since they bond the particle board so well are the best glue for particle board you can buy.
Two-part or two-component epoxy glue also works very well for bonding particle board. The sheer strength of this adhesive and the versatility make it a great choice for this application.
The tensile strength of these adhesives is unmatched. They are known as the strongest adhesives you can buy and have the strength of 5000+ PSI.
These adhesives are not so easy to use since they require mixing the hardener and resin components in equal amounts for the proper adhesion of the glue.
They can be a bit tricky for people that don’t have experience with them and are not recommended for beginners.
The environmental resistance of this adhesive is good. The best models can withstand sub-zero as well as temperatures of over 200 Fahrenheit.
Overall, this glue is a solid choice if you need the extra structural strength of your project that you can’t normally get with wood glue.
Polyurethanes are the kings of environmental resistance. They can tolerate extreme temperatures and don’t mind the moisture. They are the best and the most frequently used adhesive for outdoor projects.
Apart from their incredible environmental resistance, these adhesives have quite a bit of strength. They are almost as strong as epoxy glue and are mostly used in heavy-duty projects where massive resistance and holding strength are required.
They are a solid choice for gluing particle board, especially if you want to add more resistance to your structure.
The drying color we recommend for bonding particle board is clear or transparent. Choosing an adhesive with this type of drying color gives you a professional-looking finish on your project. It makes the bond not visible, which is always preferable.
The setting time of the glue should be as fast as possible for the quickest results. Wood glue has an average setting time of around 40 minutes, while epoxies and polyurethane glues need at least an hour to set.
The full curing time for most adhesives is 24 hours.
For kitchen particle board projects you will always want to use PVA non-toxic glue. A lot of PVA adhesives are food-safe and are FDA approved for food contact.
If you have trouble working with adhesives that have a strong scent or fumes, you will be best off going for PVA glue. They don’t have a scent and won’t give you a headache or make you nauseated.
Most PVA glue is easily removed with water.
Like we previously mentioned, PVA glue is not the best in terms of temperature and moisture resistance. The wood PVA adhesives have certain additives to make them more water and temperature-resistant.
If you need the highest water and temperature resistance possible, going for polyurethane glue is your best bet. They are designed for outdoor use and will withstand extreme conditions without issues.
Particle boards are not hard to bond when you use the right adhesive.
Make sure to go for the adhesive that is great at bonding wood and holds its bond for a long time.
All of the models we reviewed are like that, and you can’t go wrong with any of them!
